For most of us, going out and about has been restricted to going out for essential purposes only, such as going to the grocery store, the bank, or maybe the pharmacy. Many countries have imposed travel bans or even required taking a CoViD-19 test with “Negative” as a result. For some, two negative results are needed.

You might be thinking, “Why even travel out of the US at all right now?” and you’re right! There are lots to see around the United States of America! However, that doesn’t change the fact that travel is still restricted, even for domestic travel.

Today is National Doctor’s day. I wanted to recognize all the courageous men and women who are literally sacrificing their time, their health and in some cases their lives to fight COVID19 and to save all of our lives. These doctors go into the hospital every day, without the right equipment (PPE) to protect themselves, without enough equipment (ventilators and beds) to help their patients, and continue to push and persevere because thats what doctors do. I want to honor all the doctors that have come out of retirement in order to lend a helping hand, knowing that they are putting their lives in danger, and in some cases their families lives in danger. To all the medical students that are going above and beyond, even graduating early and being pushed into the very real role of doctor over night. The conditions under which these doctors work are deplorable, and some are even getting pay cuts as they risk their lives. BUT they can’t and won’t strike because they are selfless and know that even though they are putting themselves in danger, without them, people will die. . . I am a board certified dermatologist in private practice and therefore not on the frontlines yet, although my dermatology colleagues across the country have been pulled into the hospitals to treat COVID patients. My office is mostly closed – I am only seeing patients for emergencies and managing most of my patients through Telehealth. I watch my friends, my former colleagues and co-interns, my mentors as they get pulled into the fray and I feel helpless but at the same time so incredibly proud to be part of this amazing group of people who are putting their lives on the line. . . I am not in the hospitals yet, but I am doing my part in all the ways that I can. I am promoting awareness, working on community outreach, hopefully making the world a little safer so that less people need to go into the hospitals and overwhelm the system and doctors (and nurses and PAs and respiratory therapists and EMTs and policemen and firemen) running it. But, if I am not at work seeing emergency patients, I AM HOME. I am staying home for my friends, for my former colleagues, for the doctors that I don’t know but

In addition, you can’t argue that staying at home will always be safer. Still, if you need to scratch that travel itch, you can do so from the comfort of your own homes! I am not talking about high-level imagination here, I am talking about virtual tours!

That’s right, there are museums, landmarks, theme parks, hotels, and even outer space venues that you can visit via the internet. It only takes a few clicks to explore.

Museums. Museums and galleries are among the most visited items in an itinerary, probably because these are places that hold the history behind a destination. Some museums that offer virtual tours include The Louvre, British Museum, Metropolitan Museum, and Guggenheim (New York).

Landmarks. Since we’re on tourist destinations, let us not forget the iconic Eiffel Tower, and the Great Wall of China. Yes, that’s the Great Wall without having to deal with the crowd.

Theme Parks. There are also theme parks that heard your lamentation over your postponed trips. Now, you can take a virtual tour around Disney World, Universal Studios, and (for the Potterheads out there,) the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

Hotels. Themed hotels such as Legoland Hotel offer virtual tours of their rooms, including the LEGO NINJAGO Room, Treasure Room, Adventure Room, Kingdom Room, and many others.

Outer space. Yes, you read that right. You can take a virtual tour on the terrains of Mars through Google’s 3D replica.
